Help! I'm Making Bread! | Quarantine Things

Bread making | The Whitefeather Journal

Welp, I’ve made a sourdough starter in quarantine like most of the world. (what is happening, what is happening?!)

Bread making is a skill I very much lack. I am someone who loves to cook, but unless I’m craving a baked good like cookies, I really don’t bake because, I just don’t like it (with the exception of making banana muffins with my girl because she loves it so much!) Soooo, with all this extra time at home I decided to join the homemade bread club as a way to both use this time well and to some-what give myself a lesson in self-discipline. And honestly, I’m diggin it.

My mom always made homemade bread growing up (another reason for me choosing this particular quarantine activity). She would legit mill her own grain to make her own flour to make her own bread (um, GOALS!). As an adult I’ve made homemade bread like once or twice using the standard store bought yeast, but with all that I’ve researched over the years (you know, in the name of health.) I’m learning that bread is honestly a nutritious food when made correctly (as in fermented) and the only real way to do that is to make sourdough. The OG in bread.

I’m still learning so much (look at that sad lil loaf), but that’s the beauty of it. It’s all a process. And I’m looking forward to slowly mastering this useful skill.

Cheers to quarantine things, friends!
